Steel Measurement Tools

Blade rulers provide accurate measurements and can function as a useful straight edge for many applications. Available in steel and stainless steel, inch and metric, horizontal and vertical. Some types feature a permanent self-adhesive strip.

Outside micrometers are used for measuring the thickness or outside diameter of small parts or fittings with high accuracy. Similar in appearance to a C-clamp, the object to be measured is clamped between the anvil (the stationary end of the clamp) and the spindle (the moving part of the clamp). The clamp opens and closes by turning an internal screw. On analog micrometers, measurement is calculated by reading the lines and numbering system that appears on the thimble and sleeve.

Measuring squares consist of two straight edges set at a 90-degree angle to each other. The primary purpose of these measuring tools is to check the accuracy of right angles to ensure that components remain perpendicular. Similarly, protractors are a measurement device used to measure angles.
