Calipers are used to precisely measure outside dimensions, internal dimensions and depths. Reid Supply offers three types: dial calipers, digital calipers and vernier calipers. These types of measurement devices consist of two sets of jaws and many styles also have a depth probe that move across the scale in unison. For instance, you can obtain the inside diameter (I.D.) of a tube by inserting the inside jaws of the caliper. The same distance will be reflected on the outside jaws and, if available, on the depth probe at the end of the caliper.

Vernier calipers let you read the measurement directly on the scale; many models provide both imperial and metric markings. In this category we also have slide calipers, which are small pocket calipers, without the inside jaws.

Dial calipers have a small dial, driven by a gear rack that displays the final fraction. This makes the measurement much faster to read.[more][less]
Digital calipers are electronic versions of dial calipers. A digital display shows the measurement. They can be switched easily from imperial to metric measurements at the press of a button and allow the reading to be zeroed making it easy to obtain the difference between two measurements. We carry several name brands that professionals have come to rely upon for precision tools including Starrett, Mitutoyo and General.
